Anthony Irpino

The Managing Partner of the Irpino Law Firm in New Orleans, Louisiana is regarded as a creative and energetic advocate of victim’s rights, particularly in difficult and complex cases of liability. Since the onset of practicing law in 1996, Anthony has helped earn plaintiffs over three hundred fifty million dollars ($350,000,000+) in settlements.

His fourteen years of working on behalf of plaintiffs have been focused on complex litigation in areas such as nursing home abuse, wrongful deaths and Jones Act/Maritime law.

He has built a reputation as a leader among his peers in class action and mass joinder cases. He is an ardent defender of class action procedure and views the class action as an important balancing tool in a society that places a greater value on the needs of Corporations and stock holders while neglecting the needs of average citizens.

Mr. Irpino has served as a class counsel for plaintiffs in more than forty (40) class action, multi-district litigation and mass joinder lawsuits, including ones involving pharmaceutical litigation, Hurricane Katrina, chemical releases, explosions, fires, contaminations and/or evacuations.

His devotion to this area of the law has allowed him to gain expertise in strategic matters related to class actions and mass joinder cases including Case Management Planning, Class Action Fact and Expert Discovery, the Proof of Claim Process, Trial Plans tailored to class action litigation, Class Action Trials and the role, mechanism and operation of Plaintiff Management Committees.

His expertise in complex litigation has led to his successful representation of thousands of claimants in class action and mass joinder proceedings. Anthony has been class counsel in five (5) class action cases that have been tried to judgment. Of particular note is a chemical leak case, In Re: New Orleans Train Car Leak and Fire Litigation, which resulted in a 3.35 billion dollar judgment. Additionally, in a train derailment and evacuation case, Mary Self, et al. v. Illinois Central Railroad, Anthony was co-lead trial attorney arguing the case before a jury resulting in a favorable judgment on behalf of the plaintiffs.

In most of the class actions in which he has been involved, Anthony has been delegated the responsibility of leading discovery, obtaining class certification, initiating and overseeing the Proof of Claim Process and trial work.

  • Chair of the Class Certification Committee as well as the Law and Briefing Committee in the Teacher’s Class Action

Anthony is admitted to practice before all Louisiana courts, both state and federal, the United States District Court for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association and the Louisiana Association for Justice.

In addition to his law practice, Anthony is actively involved with the Ozanam Inn, H.E.L.P. (Homeless Experience Legal Protection) Program and the Harry S. Thompson Center where his energies are focused on providing legal services and guidance to the elderly, disabled and homeless. Anthony, keenly aware of the needs of low-income families and the homeless supports various activities aimed at making available suitable affordable housing, sponsoring education for children of low-income families and providing meals and clothing for the homeless. Anthony and the Irpino Law Firm provide subsides for Chaplin work in hospitals and jails in addition to making notary services free for low-income individuals.
